Finding inspiration

When creating mechanics for the levels in my game I have been struggling a lot with coming up with any ideas when it comes to mechanics, just been really struggling with the imagination of a mechanic and how it can relate to my game, like James said I can't just put a mechanic there simply because it looks cool it needs to be interwoven somehow.

What could be the reason?

It might be because I am thinking this a bit too deeply, whenever I think deeply I kind of go off tangents which can affect the time and duration that I have.

It could maybe that the essential experience that I came up doesn't really connect with the game all that well.

Or possibly I don't receive a lot of peer feedback all that much from my peers, I am somewhat a closed and very shy person and I don't really like showing my work all that much in fear f getting hated on or something like that, despite this, I have to accept that being criticized and people looking at your work and the possibility of judging it is somewhat is part of the course. For a very long time, I have been struggling with public speaking before I started this course but after a lot of presentations I got used and it comes naturally now.

What needs to be done?

I think what needs to be done is to present my ideas more, and see what other people might have to say with my work, typically in our course when we present some work the person who gave the critique will give the subject some resources to look at in order to improve, maybe giving me more inspirationnn.
