On Friday we started learning more about budgeting a project, this isn’t particularly interesting to me but it is important for me to learn as someone who wants to get into freelance I have to estimate how long it will take me to develop and finish the project but most importantly, calculate how much the project and see if it’s feasible. Budgeting is linked to entirely to good project management, scope analysis, and project milestones, these elements all contribute to how much money does the project need for it to be accomplished. In brief, a budget estimates the development cost of the development of your project. In the context of our project we had to make some assumptions like this:

· An independent studio making a game that will be released to the public, this assumption could potentially impact on how much money there will be in our budget.

· We have the technology and connection necessary to publish our own games.

· The teammates will have a typical salary based on their role:

  • Programmer (0.66) : £20116.14 per annum / £386.85 per week

  • 3D Modeller (0.66): £16882.80 per annum / £324.67 per week

  • 2D Artist [Animator and Concept] (0.66): £17637.84 per annum / £339.19 per week

  • Team leader: Pick an appropriate role and multiply that by 1.5

  • Consultant: Pick an appropriate role and multiply that by 3

· These costs are called skilled employee costs, consultants are the people who are external to your team, who come in for training purposes. Executives are skilled employees who join the team temporarily to fulfil specific tasks.

· Fixed cost are costs that don’t change with an increase or decrease in the amount of goods or services produced or sold. Fixed costs are expenses that have to be paid by a company, independent of any specific business activities.

· Overhear refers to the ongoing business expenses not directly attributed to creating product or service. It is important for budgeting purposes but also for determining how much a company must charge for its products or services to make a profit.

· The main difference between an internal budget to the external budget that you’ll present to a client is the profit factor

· Most people have no idea how expensive software is to make, they have preconceived idea that developing is very cheap.

· The tasks for the afternoon is to have a call with the rest of the team and try to calculate how money budget we have in our project, the amount of money in the budget will be affected by the project scope that we made yesterday, first we have to look at the personal costs to budget, these are the people will be developing the project

· There costs in three areas, one software engineers, 2D/3D artist, team leaders and consultants, when your going through your project scope is what people you need to make this project and how much you need them for, for example if I was working on a project where it is going to take 12 weeks, and you can complete your 3D work in 5 weeks, I’ll should only put a budget In the 3d model budget only in that 5 weeks.

This is the budget that we made budget today and I these are based on the discussion we had yesterday that the 3D art and 3D models is going to public take can nudge the bulk the time we have this project so is not really surprising that 3D art and has more person weeks and then after that we have the TDR which is about half of that site 14 weeks and as James mentioned yesterday that I am that the coding is going to be very doable to be gable within an afternoon maybe somewhat folded was calculate the persons week with the cost per week times that and that the cost once you got the cost for the tasks that need to be completed we added the subtotal and ease the cost overhead then the risk in which we got the profit which is £63,000 surprisingly James thought that our project will be a lot bigger than that because the game relies heavily on 3D models.
